Vintage 1950’s Royal Blue Satin Dress and Coat Ensemble

Vintage 1950’s; Incredible Royal Blue Satin Dress and Swing Jacket Ensemble from Iconic Gray Rose House of Fashion, which was located in Colorado Springs. This ensemble includes a swing coat with a large rounded collar, full length sleeves and pleats to the back of the shoulders embroidered in orange, purple, and green flowers and bow motifs. The matching sleeveless dress has a scoop neckline, a gathered bust, a sash waist and a pleated skirt with matching embroidered accents. A cloth label is present to the lining in both jacket and dress.

The dress has a metal back zipper 19″ with hook and eye closure at top and one in the middle. The swing coat has a hook and eye closure at neck. The inside of swing jacket back, lining only just below neckline and bottom hemline  has slight discoloration (see picture’s #11 & 14) lining is still very solid. The mannequin is size 6, I would say dress is about 2/4. Please review measurements provided below. I would be happy to provide additional pictures on request. Very Good Vintage to Excellent condition , no holes, tears, or discoloration to outside material.

Measurements of garment taken lying flat: Please Double: Dress Bust 14″,Waist 12 1/4″. Actual: dress length 41″(dress strap to hemline 41″). Swing Jacket; Actual: Shoulder to Shoulder 17″, Sleeve length 18″, Jacket length 44″ with a 164″ sweep.

History of Gray Rose House of Fashion: Was founded by Irene Wood Newcomb. Whose upscale women’s clothing store operated for 58 years and became a downtown Colorado Springs fixture. Ms. Newcomb opened at Gray Rose which was an Historical Building named Gray Rose, clever way to incorporate the name. The building located at 24 N. Tejan St., also signified in the field of commerce for the elegant, sophisticated and forward looking method of merchandising and presenting women’s fashion in the immediate post World War 2 period. Ms. Newcomb was born September 14, 1909 and died in 2006 at the age of 97.
